Daycare!

Well today was our 1st trial run of daycare and it went much better than I expected. Last night was CRAZY. Rowan had been showing signs of needing a 4 hour schedule vs. 3 1/2 hour all weekend. I was really hoping to push the switch back a little bit because I didn't want him to completely flip out w/ all the changes of daycare plus a new schedule. But he had a different idea. Yesterday he had a complete meltdown. He was fussy- make that SCREAM-Y almost the whole day, only napped in the morning. He woke up at 1 am and was up until 5am... either talking to himself, screaming, or being rocked by me. The plan was to get up at 5, get ready, get him up at 6, and go to see how long it really took us to get out the door. Since he only had 4 1/2 hours of sleep at that point I decided to let him (and me) sleep in a bit... so today was basically completely out of whack from the start.

While he was at daycare I ran errands, and survived. I cried so much last night, I think I took care of it for today. I missed him like crazy- my heart hurt all day. He apparently wouldn't sleep in his crib at daycare, but slept in the swing... for only an hour at a time of course. And didn't eat much the 1st time around. But did okay his 2nd feeding. I expected all of this, its noisy in there and I worried about him falling asleep. The weird thing was he didn't want to play on the floor! He HATES being held at home during awake time! He wants to wiggle around! I'm sure its just because he was unsure of his surroundings, but SO unlike my child to not want to play!

On my way home I was thinking how hard its going to be to get him to nap there! They can't let him cry for long because he'll wake up the other kids. And since he will be there so much during the week I have no idea what will happen to his routine. I suppose once he gets adjusted it will all work out just fine.

When we got home Rowan laughed more than he has in a whole day in 1 hour! He sure was happy to see Mommy! I think that was probably the most rewarding playtime we've had... so there is a positive side to this whole daycare thing! I am going try again on Wed. to get up on time and get out the door... and maybe keep myself away the whole day.
